Why would a parent be against their child joining Facebook?

Her mom probably doesn't know enough about facebook and thinks that she would add random people as friends, or give them her phone number of personal info. Or maybe her mom doesn't want her child to have pictures of herself on the internet. Or maybe she just thinks she will spend too much time on it.
