Why would a parent be against their child joining Facebook?

Well, my mom didn't let me have a Face book at first. Your friend's mom might be basically afraid for privacy && maybe even safety. And possibly peer pressure, which she might be put in a situation like that causing her to do stuff her mom doesn't want her to do. There are lots of reasons. But if they sit down and have a talk together where they can clear things up, her mom might let her. Just like me... Good luck!
