Why would a parent be against their child joining Facebook?

This may be tough to accept but the internet is not just a living breathing network of people, business and ideas. The internet is a historical database where pretty much anything put up is subject to being found at some future date. Many adults don't even recognize this. This means that anything ever typed or uploaded online can be used against you by a future college admissions office, employer, boyfriend or girlfriend or even the government. Your friends parents are not of the opinion that their daughter is ready to make the best decisions of what should and shouldn't be posted with her name and picture attached to it. That is their right to forbid your friend. Your friend though can propose to her parents some alternatives they might be willing to accept. Perhaps she can use a made up name, like Mojo Worker or Hercules Berkuleeze and have an obscured picture. She could also have her parents monitor her facebook page or allow them to set all the privacy settings. She need to fight for what is a reasonable victory and with each victory prove that she deserved to be trusted and then ask fior greater freedom. Don't villianize her parents, they only are looking out for their daughters best interest.
