Should a woman give up custody of her child?

It depends. There's not enough information here to give any constructive advice. For instance, if she wants to move away then she should give up custody as like you said, the father is a loving father and he shouldn't miss out on seeing his child grow up and being part of their life just because she thinks she's going to get a better life somewhere else. Fathers often get a raw deal and it's not fair.
