what does it mean when the cellphone icon on the facebook sidebar appears and disappears?

I am wondering this because my boyfriend says he isnt going on his phone for facebook but i see his phone icon go off and on randomly
ok well the thing is is that our phones are off so we cant access the internet unless its through someones wireless and he said the neighbor locked his wireless and like i said the icon disappears and reapears.
