Your mom probably knows what shes talking about. But if you absolutely want one, make sure and tell her that you can change the settings to where no one can add you unless you add them first, and that no one can see your information unless they have your permission. So with the safest setting pretty much the only thing people can see would be your profile picture. Trust me I went through the same thing you are now, and I finally convinced her! Hope I helped!
