How do you ask an aquaintance if he/she would like to meet up one day?

If you don't want it to seem like you're pressuring them into meeting, say that you're planning to travel to the area that they live in anyway (assuming it's not local to you), whether for business, for vacation, or to visit other friends or relatives or whatever. And say that while you're in town, you were wondering whether they'd like to get together for lunch or coffee. Unless they'll be out of town, most people should be able to free up enough time to grab a quick cup of coffee, unless they just plain have no interest in meeting.
I've met for lunch or dinner with three former high school classmates so far, who I didn't stay in touch with after graduation. Before the advent of Facebook, I never expected to see them again except possibly at a class reunion, but in each case, it wasn't awkward at all and I was glad to have caught up with them. So don't worry too much about asking; everything will be fine, whether or not they want to meet. Ads |
