If the Muslims in the Middle East are so bad off, how could they all afford computers to be on Twitter?

Sooo, I'll talk to you about Egypt. Western media screwed us over big time when it came to image. Well, I wont lie to you, the Egyptian population is 46% below the poverty line and by below the poverty line I mean that they really are in dire need of basic necessities like food and water. However, the other 54% is split. You have another 48% of the population that's, well middle class. They aren't poor, but they really arent rich and rolling in the dough either. They're educated, have jobs and just basically have what they need to live and are pretty much okay. Finally, you have the final 6% who are really the rich elite. Now, these are the big leagues. They got the money and live the life and face little to no social troubles and have no problems in their everyday lives. So, this should just give you an insight on how Egyptian society really is. We aren't at all primitive savages that apparently wear cowskins and go hunt when we need food. We live like everyone in the world does, wake up, have some coffee, go to work/school, come back home, have dinner, see the family and sleep...for a basic schedule.

Now, in regards to your question about Twitter and Facebook, I know this might come as a shock to people, but WE KNOW HOW TO USE COMPUTERS AND UNDERSTAND ENGLISH *gasp*. We have Facebook and Twitter accounts. (I personally find Twitter useless, but whatever. Facebook is fun.) Some of us also own Blackberrys and smartphones....like you observed. We aren't technologically retarded. I mean yes, there is a big majority of the population that cant afford or simply cant use technology and so on, but then again I want you to get me a country where such doesn't exist.

So, in conclusion, while it is true that some of the youth are poor and are having a hard time getting employed and such, there is also the other half of the population that was finally brought into the light by the revolution. Media covering the revolution was forced to show the well-off half of the population because they couldnt avoid not showing them as they have been for God knows how long. So, yeah I hope I answered your question. Smile
