How to do to get more followers on Twitter?

From experience (I have 13700 followers) I would recommend that you do the following:

- Make sure that you use a picture or you as an avatar rather than the default logo
- Get yourself an attractive background for your profile Twitbacks.com is good for this
- Write some interesting content about yourself
- Engage with your audience and answer questions , start discussions use the twitter search facility to find potential followers (search.twitter.com)
- If you're serious about building your followers and want a very large following, then you will need to automate the process. Because of changes with Twitter only a few applications and websites are able to do this now, many have been shut down. The excellent Buzzom is one such casualty.

If you only want a small following it is easy to do this without automation, but if you are after possible sales leads or wish to get celebrity status then you have no choice but to automate. I currently add about 200 followers a day, with the software I use I'll get about 70% of those followers following back.
