Why do people care more about their looks and dont pay attention to the problems in society?

People care about what they learn to care about. If parents care more about being a couch potato than they do about important social issues, their children will grow up with the same inane attitudes. You may have heard that an abused child grows to be an abusive parent; well the same thing applies to anything that parents teach their children. Unfortunately some people can not progress beyond this attitude.
