Some ideas that might be fun:

--Look at texting language. Assuming you text a lot with your friends, it would be interesting to use their texts as a data source and analyze the types of words and abbreviations they use like LOL, Gr8, etc.

--Assuming you e-mail a lot of different people, compare writing styles of people from different generations. Emailing your grandparents is a HOOT if you've never done it. Their style of writing is more formal, I find, then younger generations.

--Examine people's facebook status updates. What types of things do people in your peer group "update" about? Why would they be driven to update about those things? (This might also work with Twitter).
