Call your closest family and friends and tell them personally. If your family and friends are anything like mine, the word will spread quickly to most of the distant relatives and outer circles of friends. Then, after a week or two, you can change your facebook relationship status, but don't put a picture of your ring, its a bit tacky. Make sure you call your friends/relatives that you haven't already personally notified who don't have facebook accounts. If you live in a small town, you can get an announcement put in the lifestyles section of the newspaper.
