Because they're insecure. It would be different if the boyfriend/husband/partner in question just willingly said "here" and gave their password and private info without solicitation or under duress. That's something else altogether. But to ASK for that information is indicative insecurity and mistrust. I would be leery of someone like that. It's the same thing as snooping. I don't get the point. If I get to the place where I feel like I need to snoop to "see", then it's time to have a conversation and try to resolve things or leave.
