** you don't need a lawyer. you can go down to the city clerks office and they will give you what you need to petition the court. you will have to pay for filing fees. plus a lawyers initial consultation is free. you can see as many lawyers as you want. remember the information you will be getting from them will be minimum at best so you need to do your home work. another myth is; you are not financially responsible for a child, if you sign away your rights. "WRONG" talk to a lawyer about this one, this is a very gray area. i represented myself many times and it is easy if you do the footwork. judges will work with you and even help you, if you present yourself, in a professional manner. if they find a lawyer trying to take advantage of you, sit back and enjoy the fireworks...
