What is something fun to do in Omaha Nebraska during the summer?

I live in Omaha, but these ideas can work anywhere.

- Explore what your local library, community center, YMCA, theater, church, etc. has to offer. There are lots of things going on that you just don't know about.

- Research where in your community you can get the BEST something- malt, burger, fies, pie, or something. Keep it a common thing you like and that is cheap and find the BEST one in Omaha. Keep notes.

- Start a weird collection. Collect stone balls, old postcards, serving spoons, or whatever and visit some of the thrift stores, antique stores, and knick knack shops in town.

- Go with some friends to an unusual store and see who can get the best deal or weirdest thing for $5

- Learn to make something or a new skill for a hobby of yours. Make a camping tent, learn to refinish boards, learn to tune bike tires.

- Learn a skill or language. Juggling, magic, Spanish, Japanese, origami, polymer clay, etc.

- Help your family do their genealogy on-line, or digitize the photo album, or move the music collection to MP3, etc.

- Help an older relative get hooked up with a cheap computer and on-line account so they can do email, Facebook, etc.

- Find a place to volunteer at- Humane Society, Red Cross, church, Habitat for Humanity, food bank, etc. It will also look great on your resume or college application!

- Get ready for whatever team or school program you'll do next year. If you are thinking about going out for, say, basketball, what can you do now to get better?

- Learn about Geocaching or Letterboxing. Find some, then make your own.

- Learn about paintball or softair BBs and hunt each other down

- Organize a block party. Bonus points if it is not your or your friend's blocks!

- Organize a giant,long-term Scavenger Hunt for you and your friends, Add things like' photo of a gargoyle in downtown Omaha', 'photo of your team in a police car, with officer, no one arrested", "Photos of the birthplace of 3 famous Omahans", etc.

- Hit the local cemetery and learn about who is there. Some have history walks or handouts to help. The cemeteries east of 72nd are best for this.
