Transfolk-- How long did it take your family to switch names and pronouns?

Because they're such dumb@sses I rarely see most of my family. It's not the name issue, they get that right believe it or not, it's their total lack of acceptance otherwise. One time, my parents anniversary party was being held on a small military facility where my brother worked. My parents said I could come, but that didn't stop my brother from having me escorted off the base by the Security Police. And just recently my sister sent me a nasty e-mail simply because I made a couple innocuous comments on her daughters FaceBook page. The daughter has now unfriended me. I could list lots more stuff, but I won't. After my father passes I don't ever plan to see any of them again. For the record my family has known my status for almost 9 years.

I hope you can see that getting the name right doesn't necessarily mean acceptance.
