Transfolk-- How long did it take your family to switch names and pronouns?

You need to have a little patience (ok 6 years is a lot of patience), you don't state how old you are but obviously your family has had a lot longer using the other pronouns. My daughter (one day to be son) has recently told me that she is transgender. Personally I don't care, she is my child either way, but I did have to explain that I would slip up every now and again without meaning to. (just in case you are picking up the referral of 'she' all the time, she has not told hardly anyone and until she is comfortable doing so, this is what she wants). She knows I love who she is, not what sex she is, but I will mess up, no matter how hard I try not to, I just hope that everyone is able to accept her decision.
You don't state whether your family is accepting of who you are, if they are, then I hope you can just speak to them and all have a little patience because the slip ups will happen. very best of luck |
