My parents never switched names and were constantly slipping up on pronouns to their dying day (although my Father was better than my Mother at trying to use the proper pronouns)-- and this was over 10 years after beginning transitioning (8+ years post-op).
The rest of my family seems to be more accepting, and for the most part use the proper name and pronoun, however with the exception of my Brother, I am not very close to any of the other relatives. And I have to second what Clones said regarding acceptance versus name/pronoun usage. I wish you the best of luck. 6 years may seem like a lot of time to adjust, but some people may never make the adjustment and you must be prepared for that. |
