What baby shower gift did you appreciate the most?

A gift certificate for a 3D-4D ultrasound. I could never afford it myself - totally not medically necessary - but it was so great to be able to take my friends and family with me and spend 30 minutes looking at my baby suck his thumb and wiggle around. We loved the video so much that we had to budget it in for my daughter. It was great for my son to watch his baby sister inside me, it made it real to him.

If by "new mother" you mean that she's already given birth... then I'd say go for a hooter hider in a gorgeous print. Feeding in public is weird for a new mother, but with a great nursing cover and a patient friend to sit with her, getting out of the house is a god-send.
