It's pretty much pointless because probably no one else his age has one so that pretty much defeats the social point of Facebook? Maybe he just wants to play games on Facebook I'm not sure haha? It honestly doesn't matter to much in the long run if your son or daughter has one. I got a Facebook when I was 11 and it was still completely pointless.
