The text you mentioned just says that God loved (still loves) Mankind, and has given His Son - for those who believe in Him - be saved. It is a part of the Bible many different institutions consider their own basis for their beliefs.

The Roman Catholic Church is an Organization whose History is full of the spilled blood of those who searched for the Truth of the Scriptures. Some orders that belong to the Church - the Jesuit, for instance - were expelled from Europe from 1480 till the late 1800s - 75 different times by different countries, including (but not limiting to) Germany, Italy, France, Holland, Austria, England, Spain, etc...

The order (the Jesuits) were responsible for the assesination of Abraham Lincoln - a known fact - and many other dignataries.
