Why do liberals ignore the fact that liberalism has always failed and capitalism has always succeeded?

Capitalism is not without flaw though. If not for liberal intervention factory workers would still be paid very little and conditions would be poor. I believe government intervention can and should improve the lives of it's people if it has the power to and in the case of factory workers it did. Surely these changes to factory conditions and wages probably hurt the entrepreneurs, but I feel, and maybe you agree, that the basic needs of the low income working class should be met before the fat wallet of the wealthy upper-class. Don't get me wrong, capitalism has many economic and social benefits, but I think it if folly to completely ignore the benefits of some liberal ideas. Also keep in mind that liberalism's goal is to *change* society. Hypothetically, if the U.S. becomes communistic (excuse the far-fetched scenario) then those pressing towards capitalism would be liberals. So surely not all liberal ideas are failures.
