We've had free market before....during the industrial revolution...things were terrible. People worked incredibly long hours and had no days off just so that they could keep their jobs.

Free market is all about businesses making money no matter how much people suffer. Lasiez faire (sorry if that's spelled wrong) does not work because you get monopolies and huge conglomerations that do nothing but screw the consumer.
