The IHC Lottery is part of a Sony Corporation viral marketing campaign. The reason for this type of marketing is that it takes advantage of the already existing genuine interest in the 2012 subject related to the Maya Calendar.

Also connected to this are some other viral marketing activities on Twitter, Myspace, YouTube and via other Sony Corp owned websites.

The reason they are saying the world will end in 2012 is simply because that is the storyline of their film!
