Oversimplification of a complex issue...
American citizens can worker for wages and can use the net amounts of those wages however they see fit. The proportionate taxes collected generate revenues to sustain services used by each and every American citizen, to include police and firefighters, highways and roadways, bridges and tunnels, mass or public transportation, our military, food and medicine safety standards through the FDA, clean air and water thanks to the EPA, airline safety requirements from the FAA, Social Security for retirement years or if there is a disability, public schools and colleges, our court system, and so on. If you are implying that Americans have no personal responsibility whatsoever to support these vital benefits and protections, then you are 100% incorrect (and perhaps even greedy). An analogy: Each member of a large diverse family must in some way contribute to the well-being of the family as a whole. No member should be allowed to simply exist and use up resources paid for by every other family member without, in turn, contributing something that helps sustain the family unit, even if this means simply picking up one's own messes or doing chores from time to time. Same is true of every single American citizen. |
