How to increase website visitors for free?

If you are talking specifically about increasing visitors through organic seo:

take the keywords you are ranking best for and work exclusively on those until they climb the ranks.
focus your efforts on a few keywords at a time.
write blog posts on that topic/keyword every day (I know, it's a lot of work but you did say free)
write an article or two on that topic but don't post the article to your site, syndicate it out first to ezine articles. only after approved there, spin the article and syndicate it out to all the other article directories (go articles, article dashboard, etc)

-anchor text link with your keyword phrase
-knowing which keywords you rank for}}

after article marketing:
press releases
videos
social bookmark

use all the above to create links back to your relative blog posts.
the more links you get/create the higher you will climb in the rankings.

other than organic seo rankings:
social bookmarking seems to work best,
stumbleupon
reddit
google buzz
digg
Youtube (create a simple video announcing your new blog post)

all seem to give me a quick boost in traffic
