No because that's socialism and our country was founded on the basis of a free-market economy and capitalism. The founding fathers actually put stipulations in the governing documents about the fears they had about the government trying to impose too much power over the people.
Welfare programs are anti-capitalist because they take away from the pockets of those that earned it and redistribute it to those that didn't. Private businesses should also not get federal funding. If they have sound business practices and a good business model, then they should turn a profit. If not, then they deserve to fail...which is why the "Big 3" auto manufactures are in trouble. Their business practices have caused their overhead costs to exceed profit (thanks to labor unions) and now their sales can't keep up with union demands for retirement benefits for their former workers. Why should the government (the American taxpayer) bail them out for making poor business decisions? |
