Why does President Obama not know how the free market system works?

He knows exactly how it works. But I think that when it conflicts with his agenda he just doesn't care. One thing Romney said right is that you shouldn't raise taxes on anyone during an economic downturn. He did not however say, that you should also not cut spending or worry about deficits until the economy improves either.
