First, for 1/2 billion dollars let’s immediately cut all funding to PBS & NPR.

Let’s continue by immediately cutting all funding to the National Embarrassment to the Arts.

In fact all these types of programs while they admittedly may have some value to a small percentage of the population, do not justify the cost to the community as a whole.

Another savings would be for the government to immediately stop writing checks. All money transactions by our government would from tomorrow onward have to be made wireless. Aside from the millions save in paper and manpower, fraud would be easier to trace and funds seized.

Within 48 months the government will no longer accept payment for any debt by paper or coin. In fact some business should be encouraged along the same path. The American government and American business spend millions of dollars a year counting cash drawers. Saving the amount lost in error and manpower more than makes up for any temporary issues during the transition.

All Congressional mailing privileges "Franking be eliminated" for members of the government. There is facebook and thousand more media options now so give it a rest, there is too much junk mail anyways.

All subsidies to the US Post Office phased out over 24 month period. Either it continues as a private taxpaying entity or it dissolves. There is no service that they provide that cannot be provided by the private sector. As the employees are let go from the USPS a 50% payroll tax deduction for the period of 5 years to any company that hires an ex-postal employee.

Stop any and all monies to support the growing of tobacco.

Means testing for social security - For persons making over 300K would not be eligible. They however would get a tax break equal to 1/2 of the highest current Social Security payment. This simple plan is palatable to most and would save billions.

Eliminate all pork barrel add-ons to bills. If the bill is about energy, then the better not be a grant for Astrology tacked on.

In fact any current project with the word astrology, outhouse, or poltergeist should be defunded no questions asked just as a matter of common decency!

All federal, state and local social services tied together, so all departments would have access to client’s information. Reduce duplicate and multiple payments. A maximum monthly amount of aid based on demographic information provided by the census. 1 person 1 payment. (I know it is a little 1984 but if someone is to be on the government dole, we have the right to ensure that we are providing that service as cost efficient as possible.) In case where food stamps and welfare are both being paid, there should be a reduction of 15% to the welfare payment and a 20% increase to their food allotment. Only American grown products provided including potatoes!

How about foreign aid/charity? We give 2 billion to Egypt this year and they vote against us 79% of the time. This all has to cease. There needs to be an immediate audit of all foreign aid, with an eye to their cooperation with the US on the international stage. If the country does not pass the 51% test then all aid should cease immediately.

Now I am not a smart man, and I cannot give you a total amount saved here, but these ideas along with some modern accounting techniques and I can come real close. I did not even mention the military where there are massive savings through modernization. A second look at the wars we are fighting and how we are fighting them. We could even save more by doing the right thing, let patriots be patriots and let gay people serve their country. The time has come to end the feel good nonsense on the left and the stupidity on the right. That is where the real savings begin.
