Start by asking her a question, something positive, something like "Hey, I need a female opinion on something. A penpal of mine asked me for some advice. He started dating this girl who's bi, and he's fine with it. But it turns out that he dated her ex-girlfriend at one point. So he's dating his ex-girlfriend's ex-girlfriend. Do you think there's any problem with that?"

And she says whatever she says, and you say, "I never thought about it like that!"

Then, you start chatting.

After a few minutes, you tell her you've got to go, but say you'd love to continue this conversation, and "how can we make that happen?" Then wait.

She should offer you her phone number, or at least her e-mail - at your age, e-mail is better; it's more private and you've got more time to edit your answers.

Then, you hang out as a group, your friends and hers.

Then, you e-mail her, "Hey, I really want to check out the [INSERT NAME OF ROMANTIC LOCATION], with YOU. Just the two of us."

And that should be it.
