Perhaps if you just told the Uncle you were applying and asked for tips to interview or on resumes. I don't think I'd ask for an in and you likely made your friend uncomfortable asking for him to talk to his Uncle as well. That doesn't always mean he doesn't support you. There could be lots of reasons he won't help.
