Do you believe a long distance relationship can work?

So I've been talking to this guy on Twitter for a couple of months and he is really cute and I really like him. I talk to him on the phone almost everyday. We Skype only once. He is really funny and he makes me happy. I just love talking to him. The only problem is that he lives far away. I live in Washington and he lives in California and goes to USC. My friends tell me that I should meet a guy here in Washington. They say it will never work and that long distance relationships NEVER work. But they just don't understand I really like the guy and I'm starting to have feelings for him. Idk I'm so confused! Do you believe in long distance relationships and What should I do?
