Conservative Republicans have been trying to eliminate Social Security since 1934. Just as they now vow to eliminate Obamacare. Privatize is a code word for eliminate.

Social Security cannot go bankrupt because it was never a pension fund with any money in it. It is a tax and an entitlement, which can be independently raised, lowered, or eliminated by any future Congress. When Roosevelt signed the law requiring contributions from employee paychecks instead of making the employer or the government fund it all, he is quoted as saying "I'd like to see some GOP SOB take it away now!"
