I'm a student as well and I felt that Facebook was wasting both my work and free time. It negatively affected my grades and often took the place of actual socializing. Instead of immediately deleting my account I shaved off hundreds of 'friends' I didn't even care about in real life. I ended up only being fb friends with people I actually hang out with. Then I upped my privacy settings and got rid of most of my information. This helped (and it might work for you) but I still felt that facebook was just a time waster and I rarely got any real satisfaction or productivity out of it. The spam ridden facebook games and horrible user interface pushed me over the edge. I decided to delete it.
When you delete your account it will deactivate for a week and if you log in during that time it'll reactivate your account as if you never left. If you wait it out after one week they'll delete your stuff. During that week you might find yourself wanting to go back and check your notifications and chat up with friends. Just go outside and hang out with them in real life or study, read, exercise, listen to music, and so much more! Instead of constantly talking to people try to make yourself more interesting for people to talk to and enjoy all your new free time. Now I feel as I did before I even had an account and the feeling of disconnectedness when I'm not constantly on facebook is gone. As an added plus I even got over my awkwardness over the phone because I find myself needing to call people more often. If I were you I'd delete it, but if you don't do that at least try to use it as a social side dish rather than a main course. |
