The biggest key to getting more followers on twitter is to follow people yourself. If you go and follow 10-15 people a day statistics say that about 80% of the people will follow you back. Go to search.twitter.com and find people that would be relevant to you.
My goal is to follow up to 40 people a day. After you follow these people make sure and interact. The key to really growing your twitter account is to provide great pieces of information.

Another great tip is to provide hashtags in your tweets. This is a way to reach people that are not currently following you.
