My friends are boring, what do I do?

Ok, so first off, I am not popular. Not a total outcast but not popular. i am an inbetweener. I made the (in my opinion) mistake of listening to my parents and staying away from the popular kids or "bad influences". Trouble is I feel like I have grown beyond my current group of friends and think I would really fit in with the 'popular' group. Not for popularity, they just seem like my type of people. The parties, mainly.

It's just my friends are never willing to venture out of our town or do anything crazy. I find that I have grown past them as I actually find them quite immature. I feel like I am really slagging my friends off but honestly, it's not like that. I like my friends but I think I would be more suited to the popular group but, as I'm sure you know, it's not easy as that sort of group is set in stone from first year of secondary school and it is very hard to break in to. Any suggestions are welcomed and thanks for your time
