Promote your account using your personalized Twitter profile URL.
When you create your account, your username (e.g., @marthastewart) becomes part of your Twitter profile URL (for example, @marthastewart's Twitter profile can be found at http://twitter.com/marthastewart). Your Twitter profile URL links directly to your profile page and is the easiest and quickest way for others to find you. Use this link whenever possible to promote your presence on Twitter. Publicize this URL to your fans, and share it whenever you talk about Twitter. People who go to this URL and sign up for Twitter will start following you automatically. 2. Make sure you appear in search. Twitter people search ranks results for every user by name, username, and the bio on their profile. In order for your account to appear in search results, make sure your username, full name, and bio are filled out in your profile settings and contain keywords that you would like to be associated with your Twitter account. It is also important to stay active — tweet, retweet, and @reply/mention regularly to gain resonance amongst your followers so that search results are up to date. Note: People search results are updated daily, so it may take 1-2 days for any changes to your username, name, etc. to affect results for a given search term. 3. Set up a recommended follow list for people who sign up. "Warm Sign Up" is a feature that enables you to present a list of Twitter accounts to brand new Twitter users when they sign up specifically through your Twitter URL. You can feature some of the Twitter accounts you most like to follow and give your fans a taste of what you love on Twitter. To activate "Warm Sign Up": In your account, create a Twitter list of accounts you recommend. Give the list a name (you can call it whatever you'd like, so long as it's 25 characters or less and does not begin with a numerical character) You can use the slots to cross-promote other accounts — including your friends or partners. Make sure you include the term #WelcomeToTwitter in the description of the list (this lets our system know to present it to new users). See example here: http://twitter.com/MarthaStewart/martha-stewart-living To validate that this is working properly, log in to Twitter from another account and follow the account you have just created the list for (e.g., in the example above, you'd follow @marthastewart from your other account). On this page you should see users that are on the list you just created. Ads |
