Youtube can be helpful but you've got to know what you're doing to get the publicity you want. I'm a singer, not rofessionally, I'm 15 but I've built up 57 subscribers and I've got a few thousand total views. In the beginning I made a few mistakes by not putting up my best work and got critisised a lot. It can be harsh and I recommend sharing your work with people on facebook and twitter to get anywhere near where you want to be.
