How can a person stop being obsessed with the internet?

I wouldn't really call it an obsession, since you seem to know where the limits are most of the times and you really want to stay away from it by going out. I really applaud you on this.

In your case, I think the problem has to do with specific sites on the internet. First of all, you seem to really like spending time on facebook. You should definitely try to do something about that, i.e. deactivate your account for a while or avoid checking it too often. Secondly, it's very positive that you don't have a cellphone because the temptation of using it for internet browsing is very intense and it's hard to resist, especially if you're bored.

Apart from that, I must tell you that I am in a similar situation somewhat; I have a smartphone and I am not a person that likes doing work and has trouble concentrating so I try to occupy myself by going on facebook, reading stuff on twitter, checking my video subscriptions on youtube etc. I have a laptop too but my schedule combined with my slow work completion doesn't allow me to surf the web from there on weekdays. In general, I feel like we may be in the same situation.

I don't think that the fact you recently quit smoking has to do anything with the time that you spend online. It's just a coincidence. Maybe you need to find more things to do when at home so as to keep yourself away from the internet more. Setting a limit on your computer time is also helpful! Smile
