Anything is possible! While there are certain things that factor into being a successful musician that you cannot control, there are several that you can.

1. Practice - I would recommend practicing for at least 1 hour per day. This includes 15 minutes of warm-ups and approximately 45 minutes of song practice. Please note, practicing does not mean performing or writing songs. You need to take a step back and really work on technique. If you play the guitar, put it down. Practice with a song you've already written or know.

2. Lessons - If you can afford them, take lessons. I am a vocal coach and I offer Online lessons for just $19.95 an hour if you would ever like to try that. You can also find someone local at craigslist.com, etc.

3. Perform, perform, perform - Get out there! Go stand on a street corner if you have to and sing your heart out. Even if you don't think you are at that perfect level yet, it doesn't matter. Not only do you need the practice of performing, you need to get your name out there.

4. Compete - If there are any local competitions join them. Audition for everything under the sun!

5. Network - Meet other musicians. Develop relationships. Go to concerts. Talk to people.

6. Market Yourself - Start a website (I host mine at weebly.com for free). Record some demo work. Put it online. Start a Business Facebook page. Post Youtube Videos. Comment on other people's videos.

Participating in any type of music is amazing, and you should never let it go. However, you do need to understanding that becoming a professional musician is a job. It takes a lot of work. Very few musicians are discovered.

Best of luck to you!
