Was my Twitter account hacked?

This appears to be a legitimate email. I got the same thing, and rather than click on the link in the Twitter email, I just went to my Twitter account and tried to log in, only to find that Twitter did indeed change my password. At that point, I went ahead and followed the instructions in the email to reset my password, and for good measure, I then logged out, logged in again, and reset it one more time.

Unlike you, I did not find any sketchy messages sent from my account, so I have no idea why Twitter thought there was a problem, but in all likelihood, it had something to do with one of the Applications or Connections I use. If you use Tweetdeck, Twaitter, any number of Twitter image programs, Twitlonger, or even a Twitter application on your smartphone, those are all third party applications that require a connection to your Twitter account. If one of them was somehow compromised or hacked, it's possible your Twitter login information was accessed by someone else or they used one of those apps to access your Twitter and send out that iPad2 message you found. In any case, resetting your password and looking at your apps to make sure no one added anything else is enough to straighten things out.
