You don't technically "send" messages. If you use Facebook, twitter is basically like the "Status Update" feature of Facebook. All you need to do is sign up with an account at twitter.com, and from there you can just tell the world what you're doing and stuff.

Examples:

I just got up and it's almost noon, ugh half my day is wasted!

Just had the best burger at Burger Baron! Om nom nom
