Does falsely accusing someone of being gay give them cause to sue for slander?

yes, unless you are a public figure you can sue. If you tell a lot of people a person is gay and they agree to testify against you, or for instance you tell people someone is gay on a social network like twitter or facebook and lastly if you out someone at work to fellow employees. Outing someone at work is definitely a way to get sued. But if you accuse only that someone of being gay without telling someone else there is likely to be no case to sue someone except if you do it at work. You can get sued for just about anything at a work place when it involves any kind of sexual discrimination or any other form of harassment which telling people someone is gay is considered a form of harassment
