Will the microsoft surface be a good idea for the future?

So I've been doing research on the surface for months now and I am a little scared to buy it. When I tried it out I found that the office app is actually only a previewwhich was a dissapointment because that was one of the reasons i decided to consider this tablet. I researched more and fond that it can be upgraded in the settings. Is this true? Another thing I am worried about is that later on when office 2013 becomes old I can't install the newer version because there is no disc drive which also won't let me read the newer versions display. Is there another way? If not do you think I can upgrade it the same way you can upgrade it from the preview version? Thank you. Multiple answers are welcome. Also if you can propose another tab with keyboard, windows 8, and is under $600 that would be great.
