How does a lesbian teen actually meet anyone?
I'm 15 and I live in Miami. For the most part, I'm out.
I guess I do live in a very liberal culture, and I have very liberal friends. And yes, I know other queer people. Well, I knew a pansexual (though, mostly just a 'sexual'), and I have about 2 gay friends. And I know of other gay or lesbian people, but we don't hang out in the same circles and they would never talk to me. Being gay isn't like being straight. At least not in the meeting department. Teens can hook up via Twitter, Facebook, the mall, friends, school, etc. But when you're a teen, the options are severely limited - and when you *do* find an option, it's already taken. There's no teen dating websites. There's no actual chat sites. You can't just bump into people at the mall and connect with them. When you get a crush, they're most likely straight. When you find someone you want to meet (who doesn't even know you exist, or care to meet you), and your friends don't comply in introducing you, and you're just a tad little too gunshy to introduce yourself, you kind of lose that opportunity. And, I'm sorry, but LGBT club and organizations have, as I've seen so far, either been a joke or not an option as far as 'community services' go. So, really - how does a lesbian teen actually get to meet anyone? Not about sex. Just, meeting someone you can actually connect with. That, yes, is your orientation. Ads |
