why is it that when someone says that religion or belief in a Higher Power,they get attacked?

mike huckabee expressed his views as to why the country is in moral decline,stating that religion and belief in the principle of God being removed in school is a reason for the decline.regardless of whether you believe or not,the bible does offer great and everlasting advice as how to live a more content,selfless life.but after he says what he did,twitter and other social outlets were bombarded with quite the opposite view.so it just stands to reason that it must be true,for the behaviors of so many is that of pure hatred and evil..just like a non-believers way of thinking.
