Twitter is a great place to share interesting and relevant information with your following. You should first build out your profile and start sharing good content - pictures, links, etc.

Then you should start to follow other people - search on Twitter for people you think will be interesting to follow. Try http://followerwonk.com/ - it's a great site to find Twitter users based on their interests and location information they include in their bios.

Keep sharing good content and every day follow a few more people. Those people will check out your profile and decide to follow you if they like what you are saying!

Try not to follow say 100 people in one day. You following and followers count shouldn't be vastly different.
