Try and talk to him whenever you get the opportunity. Find out what his hobbies/interests are. You could go onto his Facebook (perhaps a bit stalkerish but you'd be surprised how many people do it) and see what you can find out about him. Try find something you have in common with him or learn something new about something he's interested. That way when you finally speak to him you'll have something to talk about and hopefully there won't be any awkward situations. Learn a bit about the topic so you can keep the conversation flowing. If he's too popular at school to talk to him then message him on Facebook or twitter or whatever you use. Text him if you have his number, if you don't then try get it off one of his friends though I'm not sure how you would try and hide what your true motices are but think about it over night, I'm sure you'll think of some reason. If they say why don't you ask him yourself then say he always seems busy and you don't want to pest him and they'd be doing you a favour but it doesn't matter (that way it shows you're not obsessed with him - but they're likely to give it to you anyway so that final comment shouldn't lessen your chances at all).

Speak to him once or twice a week at first. Don't come across too forward. Perhaps over the space of a month start 5-6 conversations with him. You can generally tell whether he's interested in you by these. If he starts conversations with you back then he's interested in you. If you've started about 5 conversations and he hasn't made a single effort then give up. Move on, He's not worth your time and effort and there will be someone out there for you anyway don't worry. Everything that happens in life is meant to be so try to avoid wasting time by changing your fate.

If he does show interest i.e. starts conversations or asks you questions back then once this has gone on for a while (say a month) arrange to meet up with him sometime. Get to know him better, i.e go for a coffee rather than spending a couple of hours at the cinema sat in silence. See how it all goes from there, though that is quite far ahead.

Hope this helped, good luck. I'm sure it will all work out for you in the end, whether with this boy or notSmile
