How much time do you ACTUALLY spend in your small direct-selling business?

That depends on the person and the company. If you do a business like Pampered Chef, then you don't spend time mailing orders or delivering. I would say that with my business I work it about 8 hours per week...that's for the actual show, any phone calls, updating my social media, etc. I make an average of $100 per show. So depending on how many I do per week determines what I bring home. My director once told me to "work smarter, not harder." So if I am booking shows at my shows then I am not spending a large amount of time making calls, etc to fill my calendar. Does that make sense? I hope this helps.
