Why would an ex who dumped you want to follow you on Twitter?

We dated for 2 years and we were one of those passionate, trusting, and affectionate lovers. We really imagined the future together! Because of one drunken mistake caused by him, we fought a lot and went through a lot of crying together. Then one day, he said he lost feelings for me even though he acted jealous + cared about me, and "tried" to move on. He said he loved me, but wasn't "in" love with me anymore. Finally, after a long and dragging breakup (since he wanted to keep talking to me), I discovered that he was going out with my classmate whom he got a long from before. I was devastated. How could he move on so quickly? So I blocked him from Facebook and unfollowed him on Twitter. I told him "We never happened" and never spoke to him since then. After 2 and a half months of silence, he requested to follow me on Twitter. Why? He said it was awkward to talk to me and he has a new girlfriend (assuming that they're still dating), so why would he be curious about my life?
